Bridge Builders Celebrate Excellence and Empower Future Leaders at Annual Luncheon
The J. L. August Bridge Builders Foundation held its annual Scholarship Luncheon this past weekend, awarding $4,000 in scholarships to four deserving students and marking a milestone in the program’s growing legacy. The event, held at the Tower of the Americas, brought together students, mentors, families, and community leaders for an afternoon of celebration and inspiration.
Four Scholars Awarded and Coined in Historic First
This year’s scholarship recipients—Ty Burroughs (McMurry University), Raishaun Conaway (Texas A&M University-Kingsville), Avery Sorrell (Texas A&M University-Kingsville), and Tristan White (New Mexico Highlands University)—each received $1,000 toward their educational goals. For the first time in program history, these scholars were also presented with the J. L. August Bridge Builders Coin, a new tradition symbolizing leadership, commitment, and excellence.
Keynote Speaker Leaves a Lasting Impact
The luncheon featured Retired Chief Master Sergeant Mark Snoddy as the guest speaker, whose words of wisdom and encouragement left a lasting impression on attendees. In recognition of his powerful message and continued mentorship, Snoddy was presented with a commemorative plaque and Bridge Builders mentoring coin.
A Legacy of Leadership and Community Support
The afternoon also recognized individuals who exemplified the mission of the Bridge Builders program. Ahmad Whitted was named Mentor of the Year for the second year in a row, and Jordan Johnson earned the title of Mentee of the Year. All mentees were also awarded certificates for their progress and achievements throughout the year.
The annual luncheon showcases the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to building bridges between generations, uplifting youth through education, and empowering the next wave of leaders. As the coins were handed out and applause filled the room, one message rang clear: the work continues, and the legacy grows.
