INSURRECTION, LIES, AND TEXT MESSAGE- GINNI THOMAS,
PRESIDENT TRUMP, AND CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

Recent headlines broke about wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Virginia ‘Ginni’ Thomas, urging White House personnel to interfere with the 2020 presidential election results. A Washington Post article reported that Thomas, who has worked as a conservative activist, reached out White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in a series of text messages trying to encourage tampering with the election results.

Writers Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, in their 2022 article for The Washington Post, “Virginia Thomas Urged White House Chief To Pursue Unrelenting Efforts To Overturn The 2020 Election, Text Show”, writes, “the messages – 29 in all – reveal an extraordinary pipeline between Virginia Thomas… and President Donald Trump’s top aide during the period when Trump and his allies were vowing to go to the Supreme Court in an effort to negate the election results… Thomas wrote to Meadows: ‘Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!… The Majority Knows Biden and the Left Is Attempting the Greatest Heist of Our History’”

During the investigation of the Jan 6th insurrection of the Capitol, Meadows provided 2,320 text messages, including the ones exchanged between him and Thomas. However, both the Post and CBS News later reported that the messages between the two had not been previously reported. It was later discovered George Terwilliger III, attorney to Meadows.

Thomas’s and Trumps feelings towards the 2020 presidential election results reflects much of the political opinion of the Republican party and close confidants, leading to the events that caused the Jan 6th insurrection. Much of the controversy surrounding both the insurrection and investigation is focused on Trump’s connection to it.

Woodward and Costa continued with, “Trump spoke publicly during this period about his intent to contest the election results in the Supreme Court. ‘This is a major fraud on our nation,’ the president said in a speech at 2:30 in the morning after the election. ‘We want the law to be used in a proper manner. So, we will be going to the U.S Supreme Court.’”

Writers Danny Hakim, Jo Becker, and Alan Feuer, in their 2022 article for The New York Times, “Texts Show Ginni Thomas’s Embrace of Conspiracy Theories” writes, “The messages were among a flurry of text traffic between Ms. Thomas and Mr. Meadows that was revealed this past week, part of a trove of documents previously turned over to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.”

The former 45th President went on to deny any involvement with the Jan 6th Attack on the Capitol and Thomas herself has denied any conflict of interest between her activism and her husband’s work on the Supreme Court.
