Houston Woman Raised Her Voice In Dubai, Now She Is Detained

“Detained in Dubai: Houston Woman Faces Charges for Screaming”

The past couple of months have been a harrowing ordeal for a Houston woman who is currently being held in Dubai. The reason behind her detention might come as a surprise.

Dubai has become an increasingly popular vacation spot for many women from Houston. However, one woman is now striving to return to the Bayou City after her passport was confiscated due to allegations of a rather unexpected crime: screaming in public.

Tierra Young Allen’s mother, Tina Baxter, explains the distressing situation, emphasizing the potential consequences, including the possibility of imprisonment. The trip took a terrifying turn for Allen when she was involved in a car accident as a passenger in a friend’s rental car in Dubai.

Baxter further reveals that her daughter’s attempt to retrieve her identification, credit card, and other belongings from the rental car company didn’t go smoothly.

To obtain her belongings, Tierra Young Allen discovered she would have to pay an undisclosed sum of money. During this process, she encountered an extremely aggressive young man who began shouting at her, as relayed by Baxter. In response, Allen, who is 29 years old, raised her voice, leading to her being charged with the offense of screaming in Dubai.

“She is currently in jail solely because she raised her voice. In that country, even a slight increase in vocal volume by a woman is considered punishable and can lead to imprisonment,” explains Community Activist Quanell X.

Baxter tearfully expresses the emotional toll this situation has taken on her, revealing sleepless nights filled with tears.

Quanell adds, “Their legal system is stringent, primarily influenced by theocracy.” One website advises visitors to be mindful of their behavior, stating, “Laws and customs vary significantly, so it is crucial to ensure that your actions do not cause offense while in the United Arab Emirates.”
