Sam Houston Band to Perform at Juneteenth Parade Before They Head to Band Camp
Hello SAISD Parents and San Antonio Community,
This week I am calling upon our community to donate to the Pride of the Eastside, the Sam Houston Hurricane Band. As most of you know, these kids are dedicated to making the band the best show in town. The program gives these kids many opportunities to play at different events, which makes our Eastside Community shine bright. During the Fiesta Battle of the Flowers Parade the news caster’s stated “The crowd always gets excited and responds when they see the Sam Houston Band”.
As they are getting ready for this year’s summer band camp at FAMU, they could use our help. Some ask why FAMU band camp well; it’s this camp that allows all the band kids to learn from different band directors and students currently in the FAMU 100 band. This band camp experience helps them learn new skills, not just in marching but jazz and concert as well. At the end of a long hard week, these kids will gather with other band kids and perform in a jazz and concert event, and on the last day, they will march in a small parade around the school. Throughout the years, many kids who have had the chance to go to this band camp have returned with a harder work ethic and some have been offered college scholarships.
As we approach the Juneteenth celebration, the current band will be joined by our alumni band to march from Sam Houston high school to Comanche Park. This is their last performance for this year, but they will return when school starts and football season begins. I know that many of us are going through some tough times, so let us all gather our pennies to dollars and help these amazing kids get to FAMU band camp this summer. If anyone can donate please do so by sending the money to the Sam Houston Band Boosters by cash app at $bbshhssatx.
Lastly, please stay cool and remember to stay hydrated as this week the temperatures will feel like up to 110°. If anyone has any questions our concerns please email at lena.lopez@saobserver.com
Have a Blessed Week,
Lena Lopez
