Spurs’ Harrison Barnes Makes East Side Stop, Covers Groceries at H-E-B

Community Reports Harrison Barnes Surprising Shoppers, at H-E-B off N. New Braunfels, With Groceries and $200 H-E-B Gift Cards

Spurs forward Harrison Barnes turned an ordinary Wednesday grocery run into a memorable moment for San Antonio shoppers after he was spotted paying for groceries at the H-E-B on N. New Braunfels and E. Houston Street. According to witnesses who shared photos online, Barnes handed out $200 gift cards and personally covered full carts at checkout, offering unexpected relief ahead of the holiday season.

Witnesses said the reactions were immediate. Families, elders, and everyday shoppers stopped in disbelief as Barnes stepped up to the register and began paying for totals without hesitation. Several people noting that every shopper who walked away left “100 percent happy.”

Community reports indicate the NBA veteran didn’t stop there. After his East Houston stop, Barnes traveled to an H-E-B on the North Side and repeated the same act of generosity, giving out additional $200 gift cards and covering groceries for more shoppers.

Barnes has only been with the Spurs a short time, but this week’s grocery giveaway adds to Barnes’ pattern of giving in San Antonio. Earlier this year, Barnes donated 250k to the AlamoPROMISE program, which covers tuition and fees for students across the Alamo Colleges District.

“Harrison and Brittany Barnes’ generous investment in AlamoPROMISE is not just a gift – it’s a catalyst for change,” said Alamo Colleges Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores. “Their support will open doors for students at St. Philip’s College, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of educational and career success.”

St. Philip’s College, an HBCU and Hispanic-Serving Institution, serves many first-generation and low-income students. The Barnes donation strengthened AlamoPROMISE’s ability to provide tuition-free pathways, widening access to higher education for young people across the city.

From covering groceries at H-E-B to expanding college access, Barnes’ community impact spans both immediate relief and long-term investment. Whether in the checkout line or the classroom, his generosity continues to ripple across the East Side and San Antonio.
