Gov. Abbott School is Starting Again HELP US!

After Uvalde School Board Calls on Governor Abbott to Convene Special Session, Chairman Hinojosa Reiterates Democrats’ Pleas for Common Sense Gun Safety Measures

Today, after the Uvalde Consolidated ISD School Board unanimously voted last night to pass a resolution calling on Gov. Abbott to convene a special legislative session to raise the minimum age of purchasing an assault rifle from 18 to 21, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

“Governor Abbott, listen to Uvalde.

“Listen to the pain the Uvalde community is feeling, and – for once in your career, we demand you – put aside the wants and needs of your NRA donors and do what’s right.

“Raising the age to buy an assault rifle from 18 to 21 in the State of Texas is the absolute bare minimum we can do to bring some semblance of legislative justice after the horror at Robb Elementary.

“Today, the Texas Democratic Party – joining the Uvalde school board – is formally reiterating its call on Governor Abbott to immediately convene a special legislative session to pass this common sense gun safety legislation.

“The 2022-2023 school year starts in a matter of weeks. This cannot wait any longer.”
