Gibbons Named New Head Football Coach at Edison High School

(SAISD News) — San Antonio ISD announces the hiring of David Gibbons as the new Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Edison High School. Gibbons comes to Edison from Sotomayor High School, where he served as the offensive coordinator for the Wildcats over the past three seasons.

Gibbons has spent the past 20 years climbing the coaching ranks in the San Antonio area. His career started in 2005 in SAISD at Burbank High School. Gibbons then moved to Seguin ISD in 2006 before being named the offensive passing game coordinator at Brennan High School in 2010.

In 2017, Gibbons became the co-offensive coordinator at Holmes High School for two seasons before being named the offensive coordinator at Southside High School in 2019. The Southside Cardinals made the playoffs, as did Taft High School and Sotomayor High School, where Gibbons was the offensive coordinator during the past five years.

Gibbons says Edison will have Spring Football to help his staff fully evaluate all the players. The Golden Bears will implement an offense based out of the I-formation and a defense rooted in a 4-3 Cover 2 system.

“I am proud to come full circle back to SAISD. The schools at SAISD have great rivalries, and the goal is to get in the playoffs,” said Gibbons. “I want our team to play fast. Play aggressive. And play hard to the end.”
