Gaza Conflict: 61% Disapprove of Biden

“United States vetoes UN resolution for immediate ceasefire in Gaza”

In recent news, the United States vetoed a United Nations resolution Friday while all other Security Council members supported an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. As the war between Israel and Palenstine rages on, this action brings about mixed results.
Writer Edith Lederer, in her 2023 article for the Associate Press, “US Vetoes UN Resolution Backed By Many Nations Demanding Immediate Humanitarian Cease-Fire In Gaza”, writes, “the vote in the 15-member council was 13-1, with the United Kingdom abstaining. The United States’ isolated stand reflected a growing fracture between Washington and some of its closest allies over Israel’s monthslong bombardment of Gaza. France and Japan were among those supporting the call for a cease-fire.”

The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict has reached a fever pitch. Thousands of horrifying images of buildings being destroyed and people severely injured have flooded the internet sparking a public discourse on the unethical mistreatment of human life. At the threshold of an election year, citizens of the United States are paying special attention to the Biden Administration’s handling of the country’s part in the conflict. In a recent article from the publication The Hill, writer Miranda Nazzaro writes, “In a new CBS News/YouGov poll released Sunday, about 61 percent of American adults surveyed said they disapproved of Biden’s handling of the conflict, while 39 percent of participants said they approved. When asked the same question in October, 56 percent of Americans said they disapproved and 44 percent said they approved.”

The article went on to say that despite the disapproval, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not one of top worries among Americans. With ongoing inflation, the crisis surrounding student loan debt, and climate change, this foreign policy catastrophe adds just another cog in the wheel of American life. However, with this recent news surrounding the veto against the ceasefire and the timing of it all as Democrats and Republicans debate over who will be each respective party’s principal nominee, will this issue become a top contender? Will this issue become the determining factor as to how the United States will continue to support or disregard the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

International genocide has historically set the stage for changing views of humanity. Conflicting views and public outcry of disapproval have largely become the lifeline that these views will begin to land themselves in the hearts and minds of the American people. Some may not see how related this conflict is to their everyday life and for the time being, there probably isn’t any relation. But one simply cannot lose sight of the impact international warfare has on the future.
