Olympic Champion Gabby Douglas To Speak At 2026 MLK March

Gabby Douglas Named Keynote Speaker for 2026 MLK March

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas will serve as the keynote speaker for San Antonio’s 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. March and Celebration, bringing her story of discipline, resilience, and barrier-breaking excellence to the largest MLK march in the nation.

Douglas’ appearance is part of the city’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. March and Celebration, which draws tens of thousands of participants each year and is recognized as the largest MLK march in the nation.

Douglas made history in 2012 as the first African American woman to win the Olympic individual all-around gymnastics title, also becoming the first American gymnast to win both team and individual all-around gold in the same Games.

Douglas was officially inducted into the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. She is the first Black female gymnast to receive the honor. Other members of the 2025 class included Olympic standouts such as Allyson Felix and Serena Williams.

After an eight-year hiatus from competition, Douglas returned to elite gymnastics in early 2024 with the goal of qualifying for the Paris Olympics. Her comeback was cut short in May 2024 after she suffered a foot injury, forcing her to withdraw from the U.S. Championships and end her 2024 Olympic bid.

Douglas has since said she has not retired and is now focused on training for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. In a public statement, she said her goal is to continue preparing for the Games, noting that competing in a home Olympics would be “such an honor” and an opportunity to represent the United States on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
