A Night to Remember in Manhattan
At the Flyfish Club on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Dylan Harper and his family gathered for an intimate NBA draft party shortly after Dylan was selected No. 2 overall by the San Antonio Spurs. In the Cattail Room, close friends, Rutgers teammates, family, and brand partners mingled in celebration. Dylan shared the significance of that moment, stating, “It means everything, everyone supporting and really showing the love.” (said to Boardroom)
Rooted in Family and Loyalty
Dylan’s parents, Ron Harper Sr., a five-time NBA champion, and Maria Harper, his first basketball coach, were front and center. Dylan’s mother emphasized the importance of their shared journey: “Life is about sharing these moments with family,” Maria Harper told Boardroom. “Not any one of us gets to where we are by ourselves. It takes a big village, your village. It’s a necessity.”
Maria, a former University of New Orleans guard, coached Dylan through high school, guiding the family to choose Rutgers over more traditional powerhouses. She told Boardroom, “I’m going to remember that we did it our way, and we never compromised on how we wanted to do things.”
A Spurs Welcome Guided by Values
As Dylan prepares to join a Spurs roster led by Victor Wembanyama, the family remains aligned with San Antonio’s culture. Dylan emphasized the importance of relationships in pro basketball, saying, “Every brand partnership I do… I try to just make sure that they’re the right ones for me and that they always stay with me.”
His commitment to loyalty was echoed by his mother: “I understand the reason they want to partner with him, because he is an incredible human being… We have to scrutinize who we partner with, so long as they align with our values and he loves it and celebrates it.”
