San Antonio Hosts Free Landfill Drop-Off Event on April 12– What You Need to Know
The City of San Antonio’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is offering residents a chance to dispose of household junk for free this Saturday, April 12. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at two designated landfill locations:
- Republic Services Landfill – 7000 IH 10 E, 78219
- Waste Management Landfill – 8611 Covel Road, 78252
This one-day event is open to SWMD customers only.
What You Need to Bring
To take advantage of Free Landfill Day, participants must bring:
- A valid photo ID
- A recent CPS Energy bill showing payment of the City’s environmental fee
All loads must be covered with a tarp, and safety vests are strongly encouraged for personal protection.
What’s Accepted and What’s Not
Accepted items include:
- Household bulky waste (appliances, furniture, mattresses)
- Carpet, fencing material, water heaters, and toilets
- Tires (limit of six passenger vehicle tires per household)
Not accepted:
- Roofing materials, sheetrock, dirt, brick, brush, lumber
- Construction debris, industrial, or commercial waste
The City may redirect customers to alternate sites if needed, based on landfill capacity.
Other Year-Round Disposal Options
Can’t make it this Saturday? San Antonio residents can still dispose of bulky waste for free at four permanent drop-off centers, open Tuesday through Saturday year-round. To find the closest location and more information, visit SARecycles.org.
