Ashlynn Sokolowski Recognized for Inspiring Artwork in Citywide Contest
San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission have named 12-year-old Ashlynn Sokolowski, a student at Robert G. Cole Middle School in Fort Sam ISD, as the winner of the 10th Annual MLK Student Art Contest. Her artwork, chosen from over 40 entries citywide, will be the visual representation for San Antonio’s 38th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. March and Commemoration, set for January 20, 2025.
Student Artist Reflects San Antonio’s Diversity and Unity
Expressing her excitement, Ashlynn shared that her artwork represents the diversity and unity within San Antonio, inspired by her experiences in a military family. “The city of San Antonio truly represents the community Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. hoped we could share one day,” she said. “Together WE are more. Together WE are San Antonio.” Ashlynn’s piece reflects this year’s theme, “We are the Dream… It takes All of Us,” chosen for its concept, artistic imagery, and originality.
