“Executive Overreach: When Power Ignores the People, What Comes Next?”

These Organization are in the Fight- We Must Join Them

As America approached 2024’s general election, numerous media reports and articles were circulating, which centered on what dire straits the country would be in, if the 45th president was elected and became the 47th president. Particularly after multiple references were being made, publicly, about his desire to implement Project 2025 – the Playbook for the Next Conservative Administration. As a candidate, the now president denied having any knowledge of the plan and disassociated himself from the plan.

Fast forward to 2025, and once he was inaugurated, the president began issuing numerous “executive orders” regarding deportations, to eliminate birthright citizenship (guaranteed by the 14th Amendment), eliminating billions in foreign aid and the agencies associated with that mission, as well as politicians the Department of Justice and to eliminate the Department of Education. Throughout the first two months, he has fired inspected generals, revoked security provided to former officials from past administrations and orchestrated attacks on the press and on high-profile law firms, that previously provided legal assistance to his political rivals or opponents.

The most recent “executive order” issued, reflects his “attempt to control elections”, which has been deemed as unconstitutional, at best, by multiple legal scholars.

The primary question now being raised – what can we do?

It’s most encouraging, for voters to know that “We Are Not Alone!”

In the engagement of resistance, the late Congressman John Lewis called for people to get into “good trouble”, while he allied himself with a significant number of civic and community based organizations, on both the local and national levels.

Some of these organizations are engaged with filing legal challenges to many of these “executive orders” to protect civil liberties, to protect voting rights, to protect human rights and to ensure that democracy, as we know it, has the opportunity to survive, despite the threat of fascism.

In the history of the world, whenever fascism arises, Democratic nations formed strong alliances, to deter and eliminate that threat. We, the People, are now facing a similar threat, and we must look at history, to meet the challenge and become galvanized. We then form Strong Alliances within our communities, to protect ourselves and the Democracy we cherish.

This fight is not over and has hardly started. Many organizations, as the ones listed here, are in the fight full steam and need support from all of our People. You are not alone. Get involved and fight for our country and its democracy.
