Inclusive new facility offers opportunities for fun, health, and learning.
San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) has officially completed work on a playground and adult fitness area at the Encino Branch Library (2515 E Evans Rd). The brand new, ADA-Accessible Playground opened with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 28.
Encino Branch, located in San Antonio’s District 9 community, serves many children throughout the year. The library is located conveniently nearby several neighborhoods and North East ISD’s Encino Park Elementary School. The playground has been designed to welcome children of all accessibility levels through the inclusion of ADA-accessible play equipment.
The new construction includes play equipment designed for specific child age groups, making the play equipment developmentally appropriate for children of various ages. The playground includes areas for young children, between 2 and 5 years old, and equipment for older children, between ages 5 and 12.
In addition to the playground, the facility includes a new walking path with access to five new adult exercise equipment stations. A food forest designed by Gardopia Gardens will be installed later in the year once the weather is more favorable for planting. The food forest will include deciduous stone fruit trees that can survive the cooler winter weather of USDA Zone 8B, which includes northern San Antonio.
