The awards, hosted by D2 Strong and featuring comedian Reggie “Bruh Man” Ballard, celebrated individuals and organizations who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, innovation, and dedication to improving their communities. Post 828 was recognized for its ongoing efforts to uplift veterans, support youth programs, and foster unity through service.

Former District 2 Councilman and Post 828 Trustee Keith Toney accepted the award on behalf of the Post, joined by Trustee Michael Nathaniel and Sons of The American Legion Squadron 828 Adjutant Eddie Robinson. “Fred Brock Post 828 continues to represent the best of San Antonio’s East Side—where service, sacrifice, and solidarity intersect every day,” Toney said.

Founded in honor of U.S. Army Technical Sgt. Fred Brock, a Buffalo Soldier who gave his life in 1943, the Post has long stood as a beacon of strength and legacy for local veterans. From Project Shoes and the Claude W. Black Center’s Back-to-School Jamboree to veteran wellness initiatives and Buddy Checks, Post 828 continues to redefine what community service looks like in modern America.

The D2 Pathfinders for Progress Community Awards are open annually to the public, with nominees evaluated on their leadership, innovation, and commitment to equity and inclusion. Winners are selected by an independent committee and featured across local media for their achievements.

For decades, Post 828 has embodied the principle that “all service counts.” As the East Side continues to evolve, this American Legion family remains rooted in its mission—honoring the past while building a more connected future.
