Doechii Named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year

Doechii named 2025 Woman of the Year by Billboard

Rising rap star Doechii has been named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year, joining an elite list of past honorees like Taylor Swift, SZA, Lady Gaga, and last year’s recipient, Karol G.

Fresh Off Her Historic Grammy Win

The announcement follows a major milestone in Doechii’s career—a Grammy win for Best Rap Album, making her only the third woman in history to take home that award. In an emotional acceptance speech, she acknowledged the few who came before her: “This category was introduced in 1989. Two women have won—Lauryn Hill—three women have won. Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Doechii.”

Celebrated for a Groundbreaking Year

Doechii’s recognition comes on the heels of critical acclaim for her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, which was named one of 2024’s best albums by the Associated Press. The project highlighted her versatility, blending smooth R&B with sharp, dynamic rap flows.

“Doechii is taking pop culture by storm,” said Billboard’s Editor-in-Chief Hannah Karp. “From her Grammy win to her unique sound, style, and spirit, she’s captivating audiences across every genre.”

Billboard Women in Music Awards Set for March 29

Doechii will be honored at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 29 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, hosted by Laverne Cox. The event, airing live on VIZIO WatchFree+ at 7 p.m. PT, will also spotlight other influential artists including aespa, Ángela Aguilar, Erykah Badu, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Jennie (BLACKPINK), Megan Moroney, Meghan Trainor, Muni Long, and Tyla.
