This past week it was brought to my attention that our superintendent, Pedro Martinez, has been chosen for a position in Chicago. So if he takes this position, then he will be returning home. Then I would like to announce that our SAISD school board Representative for District 2 is now the board’s new vice president. So let’s all give Ms. Perry a round of applause and congratulate her as she takes on this new position.
Now let’s go over how many schools have had to close due to the pandemic. Before our Democrats left Washington, there was an HB 1468, which would permit districts to allow up to 10% of our children to learn online. This HB is now back in line to help figure out how our children will go back to online learning. Parents know that the 10% could change if the head of
TEA, Mike Morath, feels it’s necessary. So this HB and our children’s educational fate is in the hands of our Texas Politicians. Parents, I am afraid that during this pandemic that our educational system is a mess. The idea that over 156,000 high school kids dropped out of school last year in Texas alone is insane. As this pandemic has changed our daily lives, it now affects all of our children’s futures. I understand that we all believe in different things, but if wearing a mask will help slow down this pandemic, maybe we should wear a mask. Have a Blessed Week, Lena Lopez
