Texas’ democratic party released the following new statement on DeSantis’ visit to Eagle Pass. Chairman Hinojosa dubbed the trip a ‘Republican-Candidate-At-The-Border Photo Op to gain ‘relevance’ again. Here is what he had to say,
Chairman Hinojosa’s Statement Regarding Ron DeSantis’ Visit to Texas:
“It looks like that time has come: Ron DeSantis’ poll numbers have crashed so hard that he needs the classic Republican-candidate-at-the-border photo op to try to make himself relevant again. But no amount of FOX News exclusives in front of the border wall can salvage this desperate campaign from failure.
“Ron DeSantis’ immigration proposals are cruel and barbaric – capped by his publicity stunts that used vulnerable migrants as human pawns, when he all but kidnapped them and tricked them into being flown across the country…just to get some retweets from far-right influencers on Twitter.
“No matter who the GOP nominee is – the MAGA Republicans in Washington and Austin will continue to operate in bad faith on border security issues, using migrants and overwhelmed border communities as collateral in their efforts to galvanize their base, purposefully getting in the way of making progress on this issue that’s so critical to Texans.
“Once Republicans are ready to put aside political theatrics, we as Democrats are prepared to work hand-in-hand with our Republican colleagues at the local, state, and federal level to redesign our immigration system into one that is fair, orderly, and humane – and give much-needed relief to South Texas border communities.”
