Mick Jagger Producing Miles Davis Romance Movie Starring Damson Idris & Anamaria Vartolomei
Damson Idris is officially stepping into one of the most iconic roles of his career. The F1 actor will portray jazz legend Miles Davis in Miles & Juliette, a romantic drama set in post-World War II Paris. Produced by Mick Jagger’s Jagged Films, the feature will center on a 22-year-old Davis during his life-changing trip to France in 1949, where he falls into a passionate relationship with French singer and actress Juliette Gréco.
Anamaria Vartolomei (Mickey 17) co-stars as Gréco, with the film capturing the couple’s brief but transformative romance at a time when both were still unknowns on the cusp of greatness.
The Cultural Vibe of 1949 Paris: Music, Art, and Identity
According to the official synopsis, Miles & Juliette portrays “22-year-old Miles Davis (Idris) on a transformative trip to Paris in 1949, where he falls into a passionate romance with Juliette Gréco (Vartolomei)… What begins as an intimate affair blossoms into a profound connection between two young artists, just before they became cultural legends.”
The film blends artistic ambition with personal vulnerability, shedding light on a moment in Davis’ life where love, race, and jazz collided against the backdrop of a more accepting Europe. For Davis, who would return to the U.S. to face racial injustice, this relationship marked one of the few times he experienced true freedom—romantically and creatively.
Behind the Scenes: Big Names, Big Vision
Directed by Love & Mercy’s Bill Pohlad, the film is written by Zora Howard and brings heavyweight producers to the table: Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman, Kim Roth, and Pohlad himself. Actor-director Xavier Dolan is also set to appear in the film, which will be presented at the Cannes Film Market by Goodfellas. North American rights are being handled by CAA Media Finance.
This latest portrayal of Davis comes nearly a decade after Don Cheadle’s Miles Ahead, a biopic that faced controversy for casting a white co-star in a leading role due to funding challenges. Miles & Juliette offers a more intimate and European perspective of the jazz icon—one that explores Davis not just as a musician but as a young Black man navigating fame, love, and liberation abroad.
