COVID-19 vaccine clinics for children 5-11 years

Today SAISD is having an event at Sam Houston High School to hire substitute teachers for their school and Davis Middle School. So, let’s hope that they can find all the substitute teachers they need for both schools. I wanted to let everyone know that SAISD is providing the COVID-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years old. If any of my parents want to take their children, you can find the information below for times and dates. I encourage all of my parents to get their children vaccinated to help stop the spread of COVID.  “As we have done throughout this pandemic, we are working closely with our local healthcare providers to offer access to COVID-19 vaccines to those who are eligible to keep our schools as safe as possible,” said Toni Thompson, associate superintendent for human capital management. “Vaccines are a critical tool to help keep children healthy and in school, protect their learning, and provide stability for families.”

Then Flu season is upon us, so please don’t forget to get your annual flu shot. I understand that this pandemic has caused us some hardship, so if we can help stop this pandemic and save lives, then please consider getting vaccinated. Then as Thanksgiving gets closer, I know that this year may be the first time we gather due to COVID. I, too, understand that food prices are rising, so know that the San Antonio Food Bank can help, so please call them at (210) 431-8326. The food bank also provides services for the elderly every month, so please call to see if you qualify. Our SAISD has information about many programs that can help everyone in our community; call SAISD at (210) 554-2210 to ask for assistance.

Now I know that most of us make a big turkey and all the sides for Thanksgiving but if you can’t make a turkey, then know that any meal will do. The most important thing to remember is that you and your family are all sitting around the table enjoying one another’s company.

Lastly, this is the last week of school for all SAISD students as next week will start their Thanksgiving Holiday for November 22nd -26th. So as you make plans to travel or gather together, please be safe and enjoy your holiday. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please email me at lena.lopez@saobserver.com
