Cosmetology Students Bring Professional Skills to SAISD- Schedule Online

SAISD Students at Four High Schools Graduate Ready to Work as Licensed Cosmetologists

Did you know that four San Antonio ISD high schools offer students the chance to graduate with a professional license in hand? At Brackenridge, Burbank, Lanier, and Sam Houston high schools, students are not only learning traditional academics but also training to become licensed cosmetologists.

Building Careers in the Classroom

The programs are designed so that by the time students walk the stage at graduation, they’re prepared to step into the workforce. From hands-on salon practice to state board preparation, these classes provide the type of career-ready training that can launch an immediate career.

Spotlight on Sam Houston High

Earlier this fall, Sam Houston High School celebrated the opening of its 2025–2026 student salon season with a community event on Sept. 20. Visitors enjoyed complimentary services from students, including facials, facial waxing, and paraffin wax hand massages. The salon was filled with energy, giving students a chance to showcase the skills they’ve worked hard to master while also serving their community.

More Than a Classroom Experience

For the students, the cosmetology program represents more than learning a trade — it’s about gaining confidence and seeing the possibilities ahead. The Observer’s coverage of the Sam Houston salon highlighted how students are already practicing in real-world conditions, building a clientele and learning the professionalism expected in the industry.

A Community Investment

These programs are a win-win for San Antonio ISD. Students leave with job-ready skills, and families across the district can take advantage of low-cost or free services while supporting the next generation of cosmetologists. It’s education that doesn’t just prepare students for tests, but for life after high school.
