Coco Gauff Is Making Greatness Relatable

Need to Knows
  • Coco Gauff blends elite success with everyday relatability through social media.
  • Fans connect with her TikTok and Instagram posts that show her “regular girl” side.
  • At just 21, Gauff is ranked No. 3 in the world with a US Open and French Open title.
  • The WTA is using her as a model for marketing and building player-driven storytelling.

Coco Gauff Keeps Fans Close Through Social Media

Coco Gauff isn’t just one of the best tennis players in the world—she’s one of the most relatable. That’s the argument R&B singer and creator Anayka She made in a TikTok video that’s now reached nearly 400,000 views.

“I feel like Coco Gauff is our only casual athlete,” Anayka told her 1.7 million followers. “She just gives me ‘regular girl.’”

Gauff herself chimed in on the clip, joking, “I just hit a ball but other than that, I’m just chilling.”

The comment captured why she resonates so widely. While she’s winning Grand Slams and flying on private jets, her online presence—posting about Love Island, calling out 6 a.m. workout schedules, or recreating blockbuster movie scenes—feels more like a friend than a global superstar.

The Balance Between Relatable and Remarkable

The reality is that Gauff is anything but ordinary. She became the youngest player to qualify for Wimbledon’s main draw at 15, won the US Open at 19, and just this summer, at 21, defeated Aryna Sabalenka to claim the French Open. She’s now ranked No. 3 in the world.

After her French Open win, she posted a video revealing the surprisingly small trophy—filmed, of course, on a private jet. The mix of world-class achievement with lighthearted content makes fans feel like they’re watching it all unfold alongside her.

How Gauff Is Reshaping Tennis Marketing

The Women’s Tennis Association has taken notice. Sarah Swanson, the WTA’s Chief Branding Officer, said players had been asking the organization to tell their stories better. “Coco and Aryna are frankly two incredible examples of people who use social [media] really well,” she explained.

When the WTA revived its TikTok account last year, they leaned on Gauff to help lead the rollout. The marketing team now provides branding and storytelling training for new players, even handing them vlog cameras to encourage authentic behind-the-scenes sharing.

According to WTA’s VP of Marketing and Social Reshina Warren, the approach is paying off. Engagement and video views were up 25% year-over-year by Q2 2025.

“She is an absolute superstar. She is a social superstar. She is a gift when you are marketing and content people like we are,” Swanson said.

A Star Who Feels Like a Friend

For millions of fans, Coco Gauff’s greatness doesn’t just live on the court. It’s in the way she laughs at early workouts, pranks her parents, or tears up after receiving a standing ovation at a New York Liberty game.

She’s a generational athlete, but her gift is making that feel accessible. As much as she dominates tennis, Coco Gauff’s superpower may be that she still comes across as “just a regular girl.”
