City Landmarks Lighting up Purple to Raise Awareness

Alzheimer’s Awareness: San Antonio Buildings Light Up Purple on June 21

COSA News Release — Several buildings and landmarks in San Antonio will be lighting up purple on Friday, June 21 in support of Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. Purple is the color of the Alzheimer’s movement, creating an opportunity for raising awareness of Alzheimer’s, a disease that is destroying our families, our finances and our future.    

At of the time of this release, the following buildings will be lighting up in purple:

·       Alamodome

·       Frost Bank Tower

·       Grand Hyatt San Antonio Riverwalk

·       Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center

·       Hyatt Regency

·       Quarry Market (smokestacks)

Methodist Hospital, and Methodist Healthcare Ministries, presenting sponsors of the San Antonio Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, are also showing their support by lighting up:

  • Methodist Hospital
  • Methodist Hospital | Landmark
  • Methodist Hospital  | Metropolitan
  • Methodist Hospital | Specialty and Transplant

Additionally, the following Hospitals are inviting staff to wear purple on June 21:

·       Methodist Hospital | Northeast

·       Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak 

·       Methodist Hospital | Atascosa

Today, there are nearly 7 million people age 65 and older in the U.S. living with Alzheimer’s disease, including over 459,000 in Texas and by 2050 that number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million. This month, during Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, the Alzheimer’s Association encourages all Americans to take charge of their brain health. Visit alz.org/healthyhabits to learn more.
