Walmart Recalls Canned Beans in 23 States Over Allergy Risk
A popular brand of canned beans is being pulled from shelves in 23 states because of a labeling mistake that could put people with soy allergies at risk.
The recall affects 15-ounce cans of Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans with a best-by date of February 17, 2028. These cans were sold at Walmart, Hy-Vee, Meijer, and several other grocery chains including Associated Wholesale Grocers and KVAT Food Stores.
The problem? The cans may contain soy, but the label doesn’t list it. That’s a big issue for people who are allergic to soy, as eating the beans could trigger serious reactions—possibly even anaphylactic shock. Symptoms include swelling, trouble breathing, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness. If you have any of these symptoms after eating the beans, call 911 right away.
The recalled beans were sold in these states: Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
If you bought these beans, don’t eat them. You can return them to the store for a refund.
