Hands-On Learning: The Helium Stick Challenge

A highlight of the week was the Helium Stick Challenge, a deceptively simple exercise that pushes teams to lower a lightweight rod together without losing contact. The challenge quickly reveals how vital communication, trust, and shared leadership are to success.

Students experienced firsthand how coordination and patience build stronger teams and how individual effort impacts group success. Mentors guided discussions afterward, connecting the lessons to leadership, responsibility, and real-world collaboration.
