Get Away This Spring with South Texas Blood & Tissue
From Feb. 16-22, anyone who schedules an appointment to donate blood at any South Texas Blood & Tissue donor center will be entered into the ‘Want to Get Away’ giveaway for a $500 Airbnb and a $1,000 Southwest Airlines gift card.
According to statistics from America’s Blood Centers, just 3% of the U.S. population donates blood annually. If that number were just 4%, the shortages of blood within the community would vanish.
Blood donors don’t just help in moments of crisis—they’re the reason patients like Amy Morkovsky survive. Amy was diagnosed with leukemia at only 2 years old. “As a typical civilian, I think there’s an inclination that there’s some endless supply of blood, that hospitals don’t run out,” he said. “That’s simply not the case. We’ve seen a slight bit of that, and it frightens us. What if it takes eight hours, eight days? It’s frightening, especially when every patient’s story is different, many of them life-threatening.”
