Black Panther Tribute: Wakanda At Vogue World

Angela Bassett, Teyana Taylor, and Danai Gurira Revive Iconic Black Panther Looks at Vogue World 2025

Wakanda returned in full glory at Vogue World: Hollywood, where Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, and Teyana Taylor transformed the runway into a cinematic tribute to Black Panther. The segment, devoted to Afrofuturism, celebrated the film’s lasting cultural influence and the artistry of Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter.

Bassett and Gurira stepped back into their iconic roles as Queen Ramonda and Okoye, donning Carter’s original designs. Taylor made her debut as a new member of the Dora Milaje, the film’s all-female warrior guard, her presence electrifying the stage with the same energy that helped make Black Panther a global phenomenon.

“Costume designing is about world-building,” Carter told Vogue, reflecting on the symbolism behind each design. She recalled the moment the late Chadwick Boseman first wore the Black Panther suit, calling it “majestic” — a moment that embodied the film’s spirit of power, heritage, and heroism.

The tribute arrives as Black Panther’s world continues to expand beyond film. Earlier this year, filmmaker and author Reginald Hudlin released Black Panther Omnibus, revisiting the Marvel universe with storylines inspired by real-world issues and triumphs.

“They were warriors that could never successfully be invaded,” Hudlin said, emphasizing Wakanda’s moral and technological leadership. “To understand the man, you have to understand the land.”

Hudlin’s vision for Black Panther has always gone beyond superhero fantasy — it’s about reshaping the imagination of Black youth. “You can be great in a lot of different ways,” he told theGrio. “But here’s all this greatness to inspire Black men to inspire Black women, because you don’t get great Black men without great Black women raising them.”

At Vogue World, that message was alive again. The combination of fashion, music, and storytelling reminded the world that Wakanda is forever.
