Beyoncé Lassoes Christmas Day Football Halftime Performance Slot

Beyoncé Lassoes Historic Grammy Nominations and Christmas Day Football Halftime Performance Slot

American entertainer Beyonce Knowles-Carter will end 2024 with a bang. The 43 year old Houston native made headlines recently with her eighth chart-topping album Cowboy Carter scoring a record setting 11 nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards, bringing her career nominations to 99, the most nominated music artist in Grammy’s history. In addition to that, the 32 time Grammy winner also surprised the world with a announcement late Sunday night that she will take the stage as the halftime performer at the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans game taking place December 25th, live streamed on Netflix. This will be the singer’s first televised performance in almost a decade.

In a recent Netflix press release, “the performance will take place during the second of Netflix’s two Christmas Day games, as the Houston Texans host the Baltimore Ravens at NRG Stadium at 4:30 PM ET… Produced by Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment and Jesse Collins Entertainment, this year’s halftime show will be the first live performance of songs from genre-bending and record-breaking album Cowboy Carter.”

Of course, this is not Beyonce’s first foray into football performances. She has performed as a Super Bowl halftime show performer in 2013 and 2016 in New Orleans, Louisiana and Santa Clara, California, respectively. Known for her unconventional album rollouts, Cowboy Carter is no exception. The songstress has foregone traditional interviews, music videos, and performances and has only promoted through brief tv ad spots such as her introducing the American team at this year’s Olympics and her partnership with the clothing company Levi Strauss. Her genre-bending album has not only garnered critical acclaim for it’s fresh take on country music, it has also ushered in cultural discourse across various generations on African American’s contribution to the genre and the overlooked legacy that has followed.

With the aforementioned game taking place next month followed by the Grammy Awards airing two months later, these next few months will truly be some of the most anticipated weeks in the music icon’s career. No confirmation has been given as to if the singer will perform on the Grammy stage, a first since her performance at the 2017 Grammy Awards followed by a controversial Album Of The Year snub. Knowles-Carter did attend the Grammys in 2023 securing multiple nominations for her 2022 album Renaissance and took home three trophies but once again lost Album Of The Year. Cowboy Carter secured the singer her fifth overall nomination in the coveted category; she was also nominated in 2010 for her third album I Am Sasha Fierce and in 2015 for her fifth album Beyonce.

Moreover, there is no doubt that Beyonce has once again transcended to new heights in popular music and culture. She has proven that her star power has the ability to move the needle and usher in a new era of Black musicianship. Her sparse but strategic promotional activities have also redefined the creative genius that goes beyond music and lyrics, showcasing the business acumen that comes along with it.
