Beto Has Outraised Abbott By $3+ Million

Highlights from Latest Fundraising Reporting Period Show Texas Democrats Outraising GOP Candidates, Shattering Fundraising Records

AUSTIN, Texas — Today, the Texas Democratic Party is announcing that several Texas Democratic statewide nominees have outraised their Republican opponents, shattering fundraising records along the way.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the incredible slate of nominees we have to put forward this cycle,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa. “The numbers we’re seeing from the latest fundraising filing period tell a distinct story of remarkable, historical enthusiasm for our statewide Democrats. These numbers also show that while corrupt Texas Republicans continue to take floods of shady cash from the CEOs and industries they’re supposed to be regulating, Texas Democrats have never so explicitly proven themselves to be the party of everyday working Texans – with grassroots campaigns that are powered by the people, for the people.”

See below for some highlights from the last fundraising reporting period:

BETO O’ROURKE

Gubernatorial Nominee

  • Raised $27.6 million from 2/20 to 5/30, easily outraising Greg Abbott’s $24.9 million
    • Per the Texas Tribune, that is “the most a candidate for state office in Texas has ever raised in a reporting period”
  • 511,000 contributions in that time period, more than 4 times the number of Abbott’s

MIKE COLLIER

Lt. Governor Nominee

  • Raised nearly $3 million since the beginning of the campaign, more than the entirety of Collier’s 2018 campaign that nearly defeated Dan Patrick
    • More than $1.2 million of that was raised since March 1
    • Average donation is just $90
    • June 2022 was the strongest fundraising month of the cycle thus far, showing sustained momentum

ROCHELLE GARZA
Attorney General Nominee

  • Outraised indicted and corrupt Ken Paxton by over $176,000 in the latest fundraising period

JANET DUDDING
Comptroller Nominee

  • Average contribution was just $179, compared to Glenn Hagar’s ~$5,652
    • Saving you a trip to the Calculator app: Hagar’s average contribution is more than 31 times higher
  • 97.6% of Dudding’s contributions are from individuals (207 of 212). Only 53% of Hagar’s are from individuals (50 of 93)… the rest are from PACs and corporations.

SUSAN HAYS

Agriculture Commissioner Nominee

  • Outraised incumbent Republican Sid Miller, raising $96,085, compared to Miller’s $73,355

JAY KLEBERG

Land Commissioner Nominee

  • Raised $586,296 between 5/15 and 6/30 and has $439,854 cash on hand. His opponent, Dawn Buckingham, raised just $169,819 in the same time period, and has $206,526 cash on hand.

LUKE WARFORD

Railroad Commissioner Nominee

  • Since his primary victory, Warford has outraised Wayne Christian $119k to $33k
  • In the last filing period, 2,356 people gave to Warford. Just 19 people gave to Christian. 124 times more people gave to Warford.
  • One more fun fact for good measure: 99.6 percent of Christian’s money comes from the industry he’s supposed to be regulating. Weird!
