BCSO Officer Terminated After Arrest; Leads to BIGGER QUESTIONS

BCSO corporal given termination papers after being arrested for criminal mischief. Adelina Agosto, 41, is on unpaid leave

This is the easiest way to weed out the bad cops when they break the law themselves.

Bexar County Sheriff Corporal Adelina Agosto, 41, was off duty when she was arrested and charged with criminal mischief.  Adelino was intoxicated and showed up to another resident’s home.  When no one answered the door she decided to damage their front door.

According to the sheriff’s office the resident who was home actually believed it was an intruder or someone trying to break in and did call 911.  Officers arrived at the home to find Adelina Agosto still present.  She was arrested at 12:55 a.m. on Saturday.  She was charged with criminal mischief for the damages.

Sheriff Javier Salazar stated in a news release, “In my opinion, this tenured corporal choosing to drunkenly destroy the property of another is no better than the criminals we are sworn to guard society against. I personally believe she has no place in this profession, and she will soon have no place in this agency,”

The charge of criminal mischief is a Class B misdemeanor for Agosto. Currently bail is set at $5,000 while Agosto is being held in the Bexar County Jail. After Agosto’s arrest she was immediately given termination papers.  Agosto has been with the sheriff’s office for 17 years.

The Bigger Question

Let us not forget the many unarmed men and women killed by the BCS officers whom did not receive termination papers and were put on paid leave- not unpaid as Agosto.

Many different circumstances decide how the police will ‘police themselves’, mainly the law but also the leadership. They have certain rights and procedures depending on the incident and also leadership in place. Although, at some point we look for common sense accountability. The disparity of unpaid leave and termination for damaging a door vs. paid leave and no termination for killing unarmed non-threatening residents does not make common sense.  Law enforcement agencies can solve disparities in the way they police the police as great as they can solve millions of murders and unthinkable crimes….if they choose too.

Agosto is under investigation with the sheriff’s office and they are also having a “separate but concurrent” administrative investigation.
