Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, and More Pull Back the Curtains of Hollywood in New Documentary ‘Number One on the Call Sheet’

Apple TV+ is set to debut its highly anticipated two-part documentary, Number One on the Call Sheet, on Friday, March 28. The series dives deep into the experiences of Black Hollywood’s most influential leading men and women, offering an intimate look at their rise to stardom, the barriers they’ve overcome, and the legacies they continue to build.

An Exclusive Look at Excellence in Hollywood

The documentary is split into two films: Black Leading Men in Hollywood, directed by Academy Award-winner Reginald Hudlin, and Black Leading Women in Hollywood, directed by NAACP Image Award-winner Shola Lynch. Featuring an all-star lineup that includes Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, and Jamie Foxx, these films provide a rare glimpse into the personal and professional journeys of some of the industry’s most celebrated figures.

Angela Bassett, who also serves as an executive producer, expressed the significance of the project. “Number One on the Call Sheet celebrates the grit, strength, and brilliance of those who came before us while uplifting the next generation,” she shared. “It’s an honor to pay homage to the legends and shine a light on the limitless possibilities ahead for Black and brown talent.”

Documenting Black Trailblazers in Hollywood

Beyond individual success stories, the documentary explores the collective impact Black actors have had in reshaping Hollywood. Despite historical challenges, these trailblazers have forged their own paths, creating opportunities where doors were once closed.

Director Reginald Hudlin emphasized the universal appeal of their stories, stating, “It doesn’t matter what business you’re in. Learning about their mindset, their grit, and their unique definitions of success will be inspirational to every viewer.”

A Star-Studded Cast and a Must-Watch Premiere

The films feature contributions from industry icons such as John Boyega, Viola Davis, Morris Chestnut, Michael B. Jordan, Taraji P. Henson, and Octavia Spencer. With behind-the-scenes access and candid storytelling, Number One on the Call Sheet captures the reality of navigating Hollywood while making history.

Produced by Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Datari Turner, and Dan Cogan, this documentary event is a celebration of Black excellence across generations.

Mark your calendars for March 28—Number One on the Call Sheet is ready to take audiences behind the curtain of Black Hollywood’s brightest stars.
