Victims in Anthony Joshua Crash Identified as Trainers

New Details Reveal Two Men Killed in With Anthony Joshua Were His Strength Coach and Personal Trainer, Close Friends

New details have emerged in the deadly car crash involving British boxing star Anthony Joshua in southwestern Nigeria, revealing that the two men who lost their lives were not strangers but key figures in his professional and personal life.

The victims have been identified as 36-year-old Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele, also known as “Latz.” Both were British nationals and close associates of Joshua. Ghami served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was a personal trainer and longtime friend who also built a following online through his fitness platform, Healthy_Mindset.

The crash occurred Monday morning along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck near the Makun area. Local police and Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps said preliminary findings point to excessive speed and a wrongful overtaking maneuver as possible contributing factors, though the investigation is ongoing.

Joshua, 36, was seated in the back of the vehicle at the time of the collision and sustained minor injuries. Another passenger also survived. Ghami and Ayodele were pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. Their remains were transported to the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.

Witness Adeniyi Orojo told Nigerian outlet The Punch that the Lexus struck a stationary vehicle, killing the two men instantly. Joshua’s security team was traveling in a separate vehicle behind them, according to reports.

Photos and videos circulating on social media after the crash show Joshua sitting shirtless in the damaged vehicle amid shattered glass, visibly shaken as he attempted to exit the wreckage.

Joshua had been in Nigeria following his Dec. 19 fight against Jake Paul, which he won by sixth-round knockout. Just hours before the crash, Joshua posted a video on Instagram showing him playing table tennis, though it remains unclear where or when the footage was recorded.

Friends and local media reported that Ghami and Ayodele had been posting enthusiastically on social media earlier that morning about arriving in Nigeria, making the sudden loss even more devastating to those close to the team.

Condolences poured in from across Nigeria and beyond. The Ogun State Government and former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar both issued statements expressing sympathy to the families of the deceased and wishing Joshua a full recovery.

Paul also shared his condolences on social media, writing that life “is much more important than boxing” and offering prayers for those lost and affected by the crash.

Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution on major highways, particularly during the busy holiday season, as officials work to determine the exact cause of the collision.

Joshua remains under medical observation at a Nigerian hospital as the investigation continues.
