‘AN EXCEPTIONAL CHOICE’-  SAISD’S DR. JAIME AQUINO

Meet Our New SAISD Superintendent Dr. Jaime Aquino

Hello SAISD Parents. Our SAISD School Board hired a new superintendent, Dr. Jamie Aquino. Let’s get to know who Dr. Jamie Aquino is and what we can expect from our new leader. He was born in the Dominican Republic, where he received an excellent education and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. While studying, he volunteered to teach literacy to children and adults, and he also worked with children that suffered from leprosy. These experiences helped him gain a more profound sensitivity to different social and ethical issues within our diverse societies.

After finishing his BA, Dr. Aquino was recruited by the New York City Board of Education as a bilingual teacher, where later he received an award- Bilingual Teacher of Year in 1990. As he taught in public schools, he furthered his education and received his Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy from Fordham University. Our new superintendent has been working in our educational system for over 30 years, working in New York, Los Angeles, Denver, and the District of Columbia. The bottom line is that Dr. Aquino has served his community in different capacities, between teaching and creating a series of Mathematics Videos for Teacher Development while also co-authoring a book “Breakthrough Principals: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building Stronger Schools.” Finally, the SAISD school board has hired an educator and leader who truly understands what our children, parents, and teacher’s struggle through every day. So, let us sit back and see what’s next for SAISD Schools, with Dr. Aquino leading us into the future.

Now for any seniors graduating this year, parents, please contact your school counselors to ask any questions about your children’s graduation plan and make sure all paperwork is done. I would also like to remind parents that the new Texas law now requires that all seniors fill out a FAFSA or opt-out so they can graduate. As this school year is ending, know that SAISD is offering a Summer ISD program for PK-12TH. The only requirement is that children are enrolled in the 2022-2023 Academic School Year in one of the SAISD schools. To register for this program, please go to the SAISD website at https://www.saisd.net/page/summerlearning. Parents, this program will be providing transportation along with breakfast and lunch. Lastly, a quick reminder that May 3rd is National Teacher Day, so let us show our teachers our appreciation for all they do.
