Agarita to Host 7 Free Performances During April

Agarita ignites the month of April with a series of seven captivating performances, all free and open to the public. Festivities commence on Saturday, April 13 at the UTSA Recital Hall with Casa de España, an enchanting recital celebrating the rich tapestry of Spanish and South American musical traditions. From the fiery tangos of Astor Piazzolla to the soul-stirring compositions of Andrea Casarrubios and Laura Vega, the evening promises a journey through the heart of vibrant melodies.

On Wednesday, April 17 at the Agarita Loft, ‘Songs of Love’ will enchant audiences with the ethereal voice of Chicago-based soprano Kristina Bachrach, accompanied by pianist and Agarita founder Daniel Anastasio. This magical evening will feature an array of mesmerizing art songs by Duparc and Robert Schumann, alongside irresistible tunes from the musical theatre repertoire of George Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Throughout April, Agarita continues to captivate audiences with its outdoor Humble Hall performance. On Sunday, April 14, they will be showcasing talents such as Aimee Lopez on violin and Jessica Petrasek on flute for communities in Districts 1 and 5. Violinist Aimee Lopez will return for Agarita’s Humble Hall outdoor performance on Sunday, April 20 in Districts 6 and 7. These delightful outdoor concerts invite attendees to immerse themselves in the beauty of classical music while enjoying the open air with blankets, picnics, and chairs.

Rounding off the month on Saturday, April 27, the stage will come alive with the captivating artistry of award-winning cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia at the Carver Community Cultural Center. Collaborating with Agarita,Cañón-Valencia will present a diverse program inspired by his Colombian heritage and his multidisciplinary experiences as a painter and photographer. A painting, created in San Antonio by Cañon-Valencia will be auctioned off to benefit Agarita the night of the performance. This event at the Carver is sponsored by H-E-B and the City of San Antonio.

Support for Agarita’s Humble Halls in Districts 1, 5, 6, and 7, as well as Santiago’s performance, is generously provided by the Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts. Additionally, the Humble Hall in District 1 receives support from the King William Association, enhancing the cultural vibrancy of the community.

The King William Association welcomes Agarita back to Beautify San Antonio Park with its free mobile concert hall, the Humble Hall, featuring guest artists Jessica Petrasek on flute and Aimee Lopez on violin. Bring a blanket, picnic, and a chair and stay and listen to great classical music outdoors.

This dynamic duo has a decade-long collaboration— enjoy their unique chemistry!

Note: The Loft is on the 2nd floor and only accessible by stairs. Capacity is limited in this 1300 sq ft space. Tickets are available at agarita.org/shows.

Join Agarita at San Antonio Parks and Recreation’s Earth Day Celebration with a free outdoor concert featuring guest violinist, Aimee Lopez. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and culminate with a Humble Hall Concert at 1:30 p.m. near the basketball court.

One of the rising stars of our generation, award-winning cellist Santiago Cañón-Valencia performs with Agarita for a diverse program inspired by his Colombian roots and his experiences as a painter and photographer.
