A Summer of Music is Coming to San Antonio, Line-up includes Make Music Day taking place on the summer solstice of June 21, 2024.
COSA News — A wonderful mix of musical events is coming to San Antonio this summer with Make Music Day San Antonio serving as the signature event. From noon to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Texas Public Radio Headquarters (321 W Commerce St.), the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture will be cohosting a free, live music activation to kick off and celebrate Make Music Day. The diverse line-up of San Antonio artists performing include: 16 the Olympus, Andria Rose, Apollo Black, Combo Cosmico, Gavin Gonzalez, George Mendoza, Harvey McLaughlin, Pop Pistol, Scripts, Sierra Lyn Brown, The 501s, Wally Robles and Zo G. Additionally, San Antonians will get the chance to “make music” with drum circles, a sing along, karaoke and more. Other performances taking place as part of Make Music Day across the city include youth-focused events by OPERA San Antonio, the Classical Music Institute and The AM Project.
“Make Music Day will give all of our residents and visitors a chance to experience the city’s diverse musical riches in a free and accessible way,” said Department of Arts & Culture Director Krystal Jones. “This event is all about coming together and making or enjoying music, and we encourage everyone in our community to join us.”
As a certified Music Friendly Community through the Texas Music Office, San Antonio is dedicated to the growth and development of its talented and diverse local music industry. This summer will put those musical talents on display with a variety of events, many of which are free, including:
- June 1: Samara Joy at the Carver Community Cultural Center’s Jo Long Theatre
- June 2: Echoes in Time by the San Antonio Choral Society at St. John’s Lutheran Church
- June 6 – July 25: Summer Night City at Texas Public Radio Headquarters, cohosted by the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture, Thursday nights in June and July
- June 7 – August 3: Fiesta Noche Del Rio at the Arneson River Theater
- June 7: Summer Fest at the Stable Hall
- June 7: Party on the Plaza! at the Tower of the Americas
- June 9: Alamo City Symphony Viva Musical Portraits by Alamo City Arts at Travis Park United Methodist Church
- June 15: San Antonio Art & Music Festival at the outside the historic Cavender Cadillac Showroom
- June 15: Explore Opera for Kids! by OPERA San Antonio and Classical Music Institute and City of San Antonio Public Library at McCreless Library
- June 18: Freedom! A Juneteenth contemporary choral concert presented by the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum at the Tobin Center for Performing Arts
- June 18: Agarita at the Witte Museum
- June 20: River Walk Live! at the Arneson River Theatre
- June 21: Make Music Day San Antonio; music events and activations held at various city-wide locations including Texas Public Radio Headquarters
- June 22: CMI 210 Festival by the OPERA San Antonio-Classical Music Institute Young Artist Program at the Tobin Center for Performing Arts
- June 22: San Antonio Music Showcase in Historic St. Paul’s Square
- July 1 – 7: San Antonio Stars & Stripes on Houston Street
- July 4: An Alamo City 4th by the Heart of Texas Concert Band at Trinity Baptist Church
- July 12 – July 21: Cactus Pear Music Festival at various locations
- August 16: Def Leppard and Journey joined by Steve Miller Band at the Alamodome
