MSNBC Is Changing Their Name To MS NOW

MSNBC Rebrands as My Source News Opinion World After Comcast Spinoff

Comcast announced last year that it would spin off most of its cable television networks into a new publicly traded company called Versant. The portfolio includes MSNBC, CNBC, USA Network, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and the Golf Channel.

Versant CEO Mark Lazarus described the move as an effort to establish a distinct identity apart from NBCUniversal, telling staff in a Monday memo that the rebranding is about “building our individual identity and vision for the future while laying a foundation for continued growth and success.”

MSNBC Becomes MS NOW

As part of the transition, MSNBC will change its name to MS NOW: My Source News Opinion World. The channel will also debut a new logo later this year.

“The peacock is synonymous with NBCUniversal, and it is a symbol they have decided to keep within the NBCU family,” Lazarus said. “This gives us the opportunity to chart our own path forward, create distinct brand identities, and establish an independent news organization following the spin.”

Network Leaders Say Content Will Stay the Same

MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler reassured staff and viewers that the rebrand will not change the network’s editorial stance.

“While our name will be changing, who we are and what we do will not,” Kutler said in a memo. “Our commitment to our work and our audiences will not waiver from what the brand promise has been for three decades.”

Kutler added that the rollout will include a nationwide marketing campaign, calling it “unlike anything we have done in recent memory.”

CNBC Also Gets a Logo Refresh

Sister network CNBC will continue using its original name, Consumer News and Business Channel, but will debut a new logo without the NBC peacock.

Meanwhile, Comcast will hold onto major NBCUniversal assets such as NBC broadcast, NBC News, NBC Sports, Bravo, and Peacock streaming.

What This Means for Cable News

The rebrand of MSNBC to MS NOW signals a new era for cable television as Versant separates from NBCUniversal’s branding. While the editorial mission is expected to remain unchanged, the move underscores a broader effort to carve out independent identities for networks in an increasingly fragmented media landscape.
