Judge Shaw Joins Davis-Scott YMCA to Support Students Returning to School
The Davis-Scott YMCA transformed into a hub of generosity and excitement last week, as families gathered for a back-to-school celebration that provided children with the tools and confidence to start the year strong.
The annual event offered free school supplies, fresh haircuts, and food and treats for everyone. Volunteers and community partners lined the YMCA’s gym with backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and other classroom essentials—ensuring that no student walked away empty-handed.
Stylists worked their magic giving fresh fade and trims, while children showed off their new backpacks. For many families, the event not only eased the financial burden of back-to-school shopping, but also served as a reminder of the community’s commitment to its youth.
Judge William Cruz-Shaw of the 436th Juvenile District Court attended the event and spoke to families.

Organizers noted that the event’s success was due to the collective efforts of local nonprofits, small businesses, and individual volunteers who donated time, resources, and skills.
