Trump Says Jimmy Kimmel is “NEXT” After Stephen Colbert Cancellation

Trump Attacks Kimmel and Fallon After Colbert Cancellation

President Donald Trump is once again coming for late-night television—this time setting his sights on Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon just days after CBS confirmed it will retire The Late Show with Stephen Colbert next year.

In a post on Truth Social July 22, Trump celebrated Colbert’s departure and claimed Kimmel and Fallon were next:

“Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone,” he wrote.

“These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!”

Trump’s History With Late-Night Critics

Trump has had a long-running feud with late-night comedians. Kimmel most recently drew the president’s ire by mocking Trump’s immigration raids in Los Angeles. He also publicly read Trump’s insults about his Oscar hosting skills during the 2024 Academy Awards.

Fallon has been no kinder. When Trump won reelection in 2024, The Tonight Show host quipped that it felt like “America decided to get back with a crazy ex.”

Now, Trump is painting their potential exits as victories. “Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined,” he added in his post, singling out Fallon as “the moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”

Colbert Fires Back at Trump With Satirical Jab

After Trump celebrated CBS’s decision to end The Late Show, Colbert wasted no time clapping back.

“How dare you, sir?” Colbert said in his July 21 monologue. “Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? Go [expletive] yourself.” The jab was delivered through what he called the “eloquence cam,” zoomed in dramatically on his face.

Colbert also mocked Trump’s prediction about Kimmel:

“Nope, absolutely not, Kimmel. I am the martyr. There’s only room for one on this cross, and I’ve gotta tell you, the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!”

What’s Next for Late-Night?

Despite Trump’s gloating, both Kimmel and Fallon remain under contract. Kimmel signed an extension in 2022 through the end of his show’s 23rd season, while Fallon’s deal with NBCUniversal runs through 2028.
