Recent High School Grad Launches Ambitious Campaign for Change
At just 18 years old, Brandon Moss is running for mayor of Fairfield, Alabama—and he’s not doing it for attention. He’s doing it because he believes his city deserves better.
Fresh off graduation from Ramsay High School, Moss has already made his pitch to voters. He wants to fix Fairfield’s finances, attract businesses, and revamp city infrastructure.
“Fairfield is my home,” Moss said. “I’m running for mayor because I love this city, and I believe in its future.”
Young, But Not Inexperienced
Although he’s barely out of high school, Moss brings experience to the table. Over the past four years, he’s worked with both local and state politicians. He also served as the executive assistant to the superintendent of Birmingham City Schools, gaining firsthand knowledge of public leadership and management.
“I’m not new to this,” Moss said. “I’ve already been in rooms where decisions get made.”
His platform focuses on turning Fairfield around. He plans to tackle the city’s long-standing budget issues, upgrade public services, fix broken roads, and clean up blighted neighborhoods.
Juggling College and Campaigning
While most teens are taking a break this summer, Moss is diving headfirst into politics. He’s also preparing for college and working closely with advisors to balance his academic and political goals.
“We as the next generation have to move with the times,” he said. “We have to mature to be the leaders of the future.”
A Competitive Race Ahead
Moss isn’t running unopposed. He’ll face Councilmen Herman Carnes and Cedric Norman, former Midfield Councilman James Reasor, and financial consultant Michael Williams in the upcoming August 26 election.
Still, Moss believes Fairfield is ready for new leadership—and he’s betting that the voters will agree.
