J.L. August Bridge Builders And Community Celebrate College Signing Day at Sam Houston High School

The J.L. August Bridge Builders mentoring program proudly celebrates its mentees from Sam Houston High School and Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) as they sign their football letters of intent on College Signing Day.

YMLA Players Commit to College Programs

YMLA had three standout players sign their letters of intent:

  • Raishaun Conaway – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (Running Back/Outside Linebacker)
  • Avery Sorrell – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (Defensive Back/Wide Receiver)
  • Ty Burroughs – McMurry University (Punter)

Sam Houston Athletes Secure College Futures

Sam Houston High School saw four of its athletes commit to college football programs:

  • John Peoples – University of Texas at Permian Basin (Cornerback)
  • Si’Rod Bethany – University of Texas at Permian Basin (Strong Safety)
  • Terrence Harper – Texas College (Wide Receiver)
  • Titus Massengale – Dakota Wesleyan University (Offensive Lineman)

Bridge Builders Alumni Achievements

The J.L. August Bridge Builders program has successfully guided numerous student-athletes toward higher education. Among its graduates, Darrius Govan is set to graduate in December 2024 with a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies. Other alumni include:

Mentorship and Success

For nine years, the J.L. August Bridge Builders program has provided mentorship and guidance to young athletes, helping them achieve their academic and athletic goals. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the organization remains dedicated to shaping future leaders through sports, education, and community support.
