Victor Wembanyama Is NOT Playing Around: Spurs’ Rising Star Dominates the NBA and Puts the League on Notice
VDub, the Alien, the Unicorn; whatever moniker you want to call him, Victor Wembanyama is NOT f-ing around and his recent play is putting his NBA peers on notice.
The Spurs super sophomore gave the Atlanta Hawks 42 points in a 133-126 overtime win Thursday night at the Frost Bank Center. The manner in which he got his 42 was impressive going 13-24 from the field and 7-15 from beyond the arc. He was also 9-12 from the free throw line. Can you say efficient?
The man wasn’t done though. He followed up that performance two days later by dropping 30 on the Trailblazers in Saturday’s 114-94 home win. He tied his career high in that game as well with 10 “get the fuck outta here’s”.
Over his last five games Wembanyama is averaging 29 points. On the season he’s averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds, and a league leading 4 blocks per contest.
Wembanyama has had a block in 62 straight games, surpassing the franchise record of 61 set by Hall of Fame center David Robinson. Wembanyama also became the 15th fastest in league history to 200 career 3-pointers, doing so in 94 games.
Behind VDubs stellar play, the Spurs are now 15-13 and in the 9th spot following losses by the Suns and Timberwolves in the ultra competitive Western Conference.
With a little more than a quarter of the season behind us, the Silver and Black are poised to make a run at the playoffs. If the boys can maintain and stay healthy 2025 should be a helluva year for Spurs faithful.
