A Season of Gratitude, My Last Christmas as San Antonio’s Mayor
Happy Holidays, San Antonio.
As we complete another year, and it is time to celebrate our many blessings with family and friends.
The holidays are always special, and I hope that this year they will be more even special than usual for your family.
Because I will reach the end of my mayoral tenure next year due to term limits, this will be my last Christmas as mayor of San Antonio, and I know it will be extra special for my family.
It has been an honor to serve as your mayor, and my appreciation for San Antonio’s unique culture and atmosphere has only increased since I took office.
If you haven’t been able to visit downtown at night this season, it is worth the effort. The River Walk is shining with colorful holiday lights. It is one of the most beautiful holiday displays in the nation.
The H-E-B tree at Travis Park along with the Rotary Club Ice Rink have turned the park into a beautiful holiday wonderland that will help you get into the holiday spirit.
The holidays are a time for us to be grateful for our many blessings. And I can’t think of a better place to be than San Antonio.
While the holidays are times of good cheer for most, they can be difficult for those encountering hard times in their lives.
Call 311 if you need emergency housing or utility assistance. City staff will be on hand to help you cover your bills and stay in your home.
Additionally, in our continuing effort to fight poverty, the city’s $240 million Ready to Work job training program is continuing. More than 9,600 San Antonio residents have enrolled in the life-changing job training program.
If you are looking for a way to upgrade your career and get a good-paying job with a future, I encourage you to explore our workforce development programs. You can get started by calling 311.
Meanwhile, I encourage you to enjoy a break from the routine in coming weeks and celebrate your blessings. Happy Holidays!
Ron Nirenberg is mayor of San Antonio.
