Spurs Rally for Three Straight Wins, VDub Shines in Return to Defeat Top-Seeded Warriors
Since dropping two games last week to the Lakers and Mavericks, the Spurs have reeled off three straight wins including two without VDub.
The Spurs defeated #2 OKC 110-104 last Tuesday night without Victor Wembanyama for their first victory in the Emirates NBA Cup. The Spurs were led by Keldon Johnson’s 22 points while Harrison Barnes added 20 points.
Wembanyama and Devin Vassell missed their second straight game with leg injuries. Wembanyama is recovering from a bruised knee and Vassell a sore left knee.
Harrison Barnes had 25 points and 10 rebounds, while rookie Stephon Castle scored 18 points as the Silver and Black rallied to defeat the Utah Jazz 126-118 on Thursday night for their second straight win without Victor Wembanyama.
After trailing by 18 points early in the second half, San Antonio outscored Utah 34-22 in the third quarter and scored the first four points in the fourth to tie the game at 89. They went on to outscore the Jazz 41-29 to close out the quarter. San Antonio outscored Utah 75-51 in the second half.
In his return from his three game absence Victor Wembanyama scored 25 points, as the Silver and Black overcame a 17-point third-quarter deficit to beat the#1 Golden State Warriors 104-94 on Saturday night. Harrison Barnes chipped in 22 in the final game of a three game home stand.
Trailing 81-64 with 1:55 left in the third quarter, the Spurs closed the game on a 40-13 run to win three straight for the first time since January 2021.
VDub added nine assists, seven rebounds and three blocks in his return from a three-game absence with a bruised right knee.
The Spurs are now 9-8 and currently holding on to the 10th a final play in spot in the Western Conference by just a half a game over the Timberwolves. They are just one game out of the sixth seed and just a mere three and a half games behind the Warriors who still sit atop the Western Conference.
