Fred Brock Post 828 Annual Thanksgiving Charity Gives Food Boxes to Local Schools

Legionnaires, Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion of Fred Brock American Legion Post No. 828 prepared 30 food boxes for distribution to three local schools in support of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

The food boxes which contained a whole turkey with all the fixings were distributed to Booker T. Washington Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Academy, and Essence Preparatory on Nov. 19.

Members of the Post to include San Antonio Auxiliary Unit No. 828 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron No. 828 met at the Post’s event center to package the food boxes on Nov. 17.

According to Post Chaplain and Youth Chair Patricia Wimberly, the Post’s Children & Youth Program is guided by three main objectives: to strengthen the family unit, work with quality organizations that provide services for children, and provide communities with well-rounded programs that meet the needs of young people.

“For the past two years, we have donated H-E-B gift cards to families to purchase food,” said Wimberly, a retired Air Force nurse. “This year, we wanted to return to our tradition of distributing food boxes.

The Post strongly supports traditional family values, assistance for at-risk children and activities that promote their healthy and wholesome development.

Special thanks to all who donated and volunteered. Additional thanks to Post Chaplain Patricia Wimberly, the Children and Youth Chair.

Post 828’s next program in support of its youth will be Project Shoes which provides school-aged children within the Post’s area of responsibility with new shoes to start off the new year on January 11.

Fred Brock Post No. 828’s mission is to enhance the well-being of San Antonio’s veterans, their families, the military, and the community by its devotion to mutual helpfulness.
