Here’s where you will have the longest security wait times and highest chance of a delayed flight.
We already know which two airports will be the busiest in the US this holiday season. Travelers going through the Los Angeles and San Francisco airports might be facing the biggest crowds, but they won’t be having the least pleasant time, according to new data. In fact, it looks like travelers in the other sunny state will be worse off.
A new report from Jettly studied which airports had the most flight delays and longest security wait times during the Thanksgiving travel period of 2023. Based on that information, they were able to assemble a list of airports that are most likely to experience the top delays and longest security lines for Thanksgiving 2024.
Miami International Airport had the longest average wait time for Thanksgiving at 54.1 minutes. Closely behind Miami was Los Angeles International Airport, with a 53.6 minute average wait time.
Here are the ten airports that had the longest wait times in 2023:

2. Los Angeles International Airport, 53.6 minutes
3. John F. Kennedy International Airport, 53.2 minutes
4. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, 49.7 minutes
5. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, 48.8 minutes
6. Chicago O’Hare International Airport, 47.7 minutes
7. Newark International Airport, 46.2 minutes
8. George Bush Intercontinental Airport, 45.7 minutes
9. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, 45.5 minutes
10. San Francisco International Airport, 43.7 minutes
For delays, the airports that had the highest percentage of flight delays last year were a bit different than those that had the longest security wait times. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport had the highest percentage of delays, with 21% of flights being delayed. Orlando International was the airport with the second highest percentage of delays, with 19.8% of flights delayed.
