Post-Election Doldrums: Listless and Low Spirited

Navigating the Election Fallout of 2024

As the 2024 Presidential Election has come to a close, a large segment of the voting population appears to have fallen into the doldrums – which is described as “a state or period of inactivity, stagnation or depression”, while often seen as having low spirits, being listless or being in a depressed mood.

While the outcome, of the presidential election, is not what a cross section of millions of voters wanted, it is what we are going to have to recon with, for the next four years.

In reviewing some of the myriad of reasons that contributed to the end results, we must examine some of the contributing factors.

The VP had a shorter period of time, to assemble a campaign staff, to raise money and to work to have people see who she was and to learn about what she stood for.

The gender and race picture did not work in Harris’s favor. However for former president Trump, he received the following support from these groups of voters:

  • White men – 60% voted for the former president.
  • White women – 53% voted for the former president.
  • Hispanic men – 53% voted for the former president.

The gender and race picture for Harris looked like:

  • Black women showed up, with 91% voting for the VP
  • Black men’s numbers were high, with 73% having voted for the VP
  • Hispanic women were in at 47%

Voters that supported the former president appear to be okay, with his many “misogynistic attitude and his willingness to flout the rules of society, his being untruthful and his being a grifter.

Will Things Change or Remain the Same?

The president-elect has stated he “wants to be a dictator only on day one, which I find abhorrent.”

What citizens must do is not give up anymore territory, to hold onto our belief. This we will do, with the help of the military, support from the young and engaging the media, which they likely would not desire to become the “fifth state.”

There’s a lot to do, going forward, and we must continue to get organized, to become galvanized, and energized, to do this – all in defense of democracy.
