A Consequential Moment For Shyne To Tell His Story Amid Diddy’s Indictment, Airing Nov 18th on Hulu

New Shyne Documentary Traces the Trajectory of the Famed Rapper-turned-Politician’s Career, and the Infamous 1999 Nightclub Shooting Where he was “Set Up to Be the Fall Guy” for Diddy

A new documentary about Moses ‘Shyne’ Barrow is coming to Hulu this month, where the rapper-turned-politician provides a detailed account of how he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison for a nightclub shooting in 1999. After serving over 8 years, Shyne turned his life around, changing the direction of his career and becoming a politician for his home country of Belize. Shyne maintains his innocence surrounding the events in 1999, and claims he was “set up to be the fall guy” for controversial rapper-mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

”The Honorable Shyne”

The Hulu doc, titled “The Honorable Shyne,” tracks his life story and reveals how his “promising rap career was cut short after he was charged in a high-profile New York nightclub shooting, along with rap impresario Sean ‘Puffy’ [‘Diddy’] Combs. Shyne was convicted in 2001 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Combs was acquitted. After prison, Shyne reemerged in his native Belize, where he transitioned from music to politics, ultimately becoming the Leader of the Opposition Party…This documentary provides an intimate look at Shyne’s personal evolution as he navigates fame, incarceration and a return home to Belize, where he finds new purpose and strives to lead his country to a brighter future,” according to the film’s synopsis.

1999 Shyne Signs To Diddy’s Record Label

In 1999, Shyne was signed to Diddy’s record label, making headway in his music career and on his way to becoming one of the biggest stars in the industry. This abruptly changed when he found himself caught in the middle of a shooting at a Manhattan nightclub, where he had been in attendance with Diddy and Jennifer Lopez. Witnesses at the club stated that a man had begun arguing with Diddy, before pulling out a gun and threatening both him and Shyne. The two then drew their own weapons in self-defense, and shots were fired. Three people were injured, and Shyne was accused of firing the shots that hit the bystanders, even though he insisted he only fired shots into the air, in addition to the fact that a ballistics expert at the trial explained that the injuries from the victims were more likely from a second gunman. Despite this, Shyne was convicted and sent to prison, and Diddy was let off.

A Consequential Moment For Shyne To Tell His Story

Now, after Diddy’s recent arrest for a number of charges ranging from racketeering to sex trafficking and sexual assault, it seems like a consequential moment for Shyne to tell his story to the public. With all the horrible things that are coming to light about Diddy, and with the benefit of hindsight, it’s easy to side with Shyne and believe that he was set up to take the fall for the 1999 shooting. Diddy’s trial start date is scheduled for May 5th of next year.

“The Honorable Shyne” will be available to stream on Hulu beginning November 18th.
