Military City USA Celebrates Service at San Antonio’s Spirit of America Dinner

Legionnaires, Shriners Support Annual Spirit of America Dinner

SAN ANTONIO- Legionnaires of Fred Brock American Legion Post No. 828 and Prince Hall Shriners of Moussa Temple No. 106 volunteered in support of the 2024 Spirit of America Dinner, the premiere event of Celebrate America’s Military (CAM), at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

The dinner, sponsored by the Greater San Antonio Chamber, is attended annually by over 450 military personnel from all branches of service as well as business and civic leaders from across Military City USA. The evening included a cocktail reception, an elegant dinner and entertainment from the Air Force Band of the West. Those in attendance had the pleasure of hearing from Ryan Manion, CEO of The Travis Manion Foundation, who served as the event’s keynote speaker.

According to Post 828 Commander Burrell Parmer having Legionnaires volunteer at the event not only provided an opportunity for Post 828 to give back, but also provided another opportunity to increase awareness of The American Legion and its pillar programs.

“Fred Brock Post 828 is taking every opportunity to be visible in our veteran community,” said Parmer. “With a large military presence in the city, it is only fitting that we support the Spirit of America Dinner and other CAM events which honors the past, present and the future of our armed forces.”

San Antonio is home to one of the largest concentrations of military bases in the United States and is home to the Department of Defense’s largest medical center at Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston. For 47 years, the Greater San Antonio Chamber has hosted its annual salute to the military, which occurs in early to mid-November and involves more than 35 events.

The CAM Committee, chaired by Richard Delgaldo, coordinates, executes, and promotes multiple events to highlight servicemen and women across all branches of service, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard.
