Northeast Lakeview College Hosts the 2024 San Antonio Heart & Stroke Walk
The San Antonio Heart & Stroke Walk celebrates a milestone this year, marking the American Heart Association’s centennial anniversary. Scheduled for November 9, 2024, at Northeast Lakeview College, the event aims to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke, with a special focus on community engagement and lifesaving initiatives.
This year’s Heart & Stroke Walk will take place at Northeast Lakeview College, a change from previous years that promises to offer more space for participants and a fresh environment for the festivities. The event will include a 5k competitive run, a 5k community walk, and various family-friendly activities like a kids’ zone, doggy den, food vendors, and live music.
Nation of Lifesavers: Promoting Heart Health and Emergency Response
The walk also highlights the Nation of Lifesavers initiative, which is designed to empower communities with the skills needed to respond to cardiac emergencies. The initiative’s goal is to create a culture of lifesaving preparedness, equipping more people to step in when heart emergencies occur. By offering training and awareness, the American Heart Association hopes to increase survival rates for heart attack and stroke victims.
Heart Survivor Chuck Bowman Shares His Story
A focal point of this year’s event will be heart survivor Chuck Bowman, who experienced sudden cardiac arrest but was saved thanks to prompt medical intervention. Chuck will share his story to inspire others and underscore the importance of education, quick response, and community support in cardiac emergencies. “Together, we can save lives and improve the health of our community,” Chuck says, advocating for more awareness and research.
Family-Friendly Activities to Encourage Community Involvement
In addition to the run and walk, the San Antonio Heart & Stroke Walk offers a range of activities for people of all ages, making it a great event for families and pet owners. The kid-friendly zone and doggy den ensure that everyone, including four-legged family members, can join in on the fun while supporting a crucial cause.
Honoring Sponsors and Community Support
This impactful event wouldn’t be possible without the support of local sponsors, including Big State Electric, Galaxy Builders, Methodist Healthcare supported by the HCA Foundation, and Methodist Healthcare Ministries. Their contributions help further the mission of the American Heart Association to save lives through research, education, and community engagement.
How to Get Involved
The San Antonio Heart & Stroke Walk is free and open to all members of the community. Participants are encouraged to register online at heart.org/sanantonio to join this important cause and contribute to a healthier San Antonio.
Mark your calendars for November 9, 2024, and take part in a century of life-saving efforts.
