Jazz is Alive in San Antonio This Weekend

The City of San Antonio is excited for the San Antonio Park Foundation’s 41st Annual Jazz’SAlive Festival to kick off this Friday and Saturday. As the city’s official jazz festival, Jazz’SAlive has become a 41 year tradition, drawing huge turnouts year after year. San Antonians love their jazz, and this free, two-day event brings the community together in celebration of the genre that unites people from all walks of life.

What to Expect at Jazz’SAlive 2024

Held at the Civic Park at Hemisfair, this year’s Jazz’SAlive will feature world-class performances, food, and entertainment for all ages. The festival will take place on Friday, September 27th, from 4 PM to 11 PM, and Saturday, September 28th, from 11 AM to 11 PM. General admission is free, making it accessible to everyone in the community. For those looking to enhance their experience, there are VIP tables and Patron Seats available for purchase.

While general admission is free, festival-goers looking for an upgraded experience can reserve VIP tables and Patron Seats. The Jazz’SAlive VIP Experience Package provides seating for eight, along with complimentary beverages and bites. Single-day Patron Seats are available  per person, offering prime seating near the main stage with cocktail service. Friday Lineup: A Blend of Legends and Local Talent

Jazz enthusiasts are in for a treat with Friday’s stellar lineup, which includes award-winning musician and composer Patrice Rushen, whose fusion of jazz, pop, and R&B took the 70s and 80s by storm. Local favorites Dirty River Orchestra and the Dan Ryan Quartet will also perform, along with the USAF Band of the West featuring Grammy-winning bandleader Steven Feifke. The variety of styles and sounds on Friday promises to make the evening an unforgettable experience for all.

Saturday Lineup: All-Star Musicians Take the Stage

Saturday’s lineup is equally impressive, with the return of the Lao Tizer Band, featuring Grammy-winning saxophonist Eric Marienthal and Rolling Stone’s 2022 “Bassist of the Year” nominee Anthony Crawford. Other highlights include Jose Amador and Terra Nova’s eclectic Latin Jazz showcase, and Catching Daylight’s tribute to jazz legends. Rising stars like Kate Kortum and Nina and the Gypsies will round out the day, ensuring a diverse mix of jazz styles for all attendees to enjoy.
